Our Animals

We have a variety of cold-blooded critters here at Gull Wings. Take a minute to learn a little bit more about them!

PLEASE NOTE THAT AS WE COMPLETE RENOVATIONS OF THE NEW GULL WINGS NATURE CENTER, ALL OF OUR TERRESTRIAL ANIMALS ARE OFF-EXHIBIT.  ALTHOUGH YOU CAN STILL VISIT OUR TOUCH TANK AND OTHER AQUARIA, THE REPTILES AND INVERTEBRATES PICTURED HERE ARE NOT CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY.

You can help to support our animals by becoming an Animal Sponsor or Animal Friend.  To download an application, please click here.

Kodo the Argentine Black and White Tegu  Tegus are not only among the largest lizards in the world, they are also some of the smartest. Kodo knows how to take off not one, but two kinds of leashes, escape from his holding tank, and poop on the Animal Curator without him knowing.

Spike the Sudan Plated Lizard  Often mistaken for a snake or even a baby crocodile, Spike looks like he came straight out of Jurassic Park. Prehistoric he may not be, but at over 13 years old, Spike is certainly pretty close to a living fossil.

Bernie the Box Turtle  If you thought tortoises were “slow and steady,” you don’t know Bernie! He is surprisingly feisty, especially when earthworms are on the menu.

Ozzy the Chilean Rose Tarantula  Too much time spent listening to Black Sabbath albums on the Animal Curator’s Ipod has made this the most rockin’ tarantula you’ll ever meet. While she doesn’t bite the heads off bats, our Ozzy does enjoy a good game of cricket-catch come feeding time.
