Plenty of room to explore!

Our vision is for Gull Wings to be a place where children have fun while learning from exhibits that help them explore, imagine, and discover the world around them.

The Ventura County Gull Wings Children's Museum provides a fun, hands-on, interactive and educational place for children ages 2-12 to learn by doing.

Our goals include:

  • Allowing children the opportunity to imagine, pretend, create and make their own choices.
  • Offering touchable exhibits and programming that encourage children to explore and discover the wonders of everyday life and the world around them.
  • Fostering a child's spirit of cooperation and mutual respect by working and playing together with others.
  • Providing a place for parents, grandparents, educators and child care providers to participate and interact in the exploration and discovery process.

HISTORY

With the belief that children are tactile and learn by doing, Gull Wings was born in 1988 through the energy and dedication of local educators who desired to provide a place of participatory learning for the community. In May of 1989, Gull Wings opened to the public at the present site generously provided by the City of Oxnard for a mere $1 per year.

Gull Wings relies on earned income and private contributions from generous local individuals, foundations, and corporations to support its programs. Admissions, parties, field trips, outreach, educational programs, and gift shop revenue generate fifty percent of the total operating budget. Occasional fundraisers also help the museum reach its financial goals. Gull Wings operates with no state or federal government support, so donations are always welcome.
